Securing the borders of this country is first and formost a security issue! It is not xenophobic! It is not anti-Latino! It is not even a drug enforcement issue! (I support a degree of legalization which would render the drug trade virtually nonexistent!) With the world becoming increasingly dangerous and with maniacs out there planning to harm Americans it only makes sense that our borders should be just that...BORDERS! It would be nice to know who is entering this country and why! Just an opinion!

John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Grover Norquist et al. are most certainly NOT in the center of the illegal immigration debate no matter how many times the media tries to portray this as such.

In fact, by advocating "comprehensive immigration reform" a/k/a mass amnesty for about 11 million illegal aliens, McCain and others are advocating an extremist position that is opposed by the vast majority of Americans -- as credible polling using neutral language continually shows (e.g., Rasmussen Reports. Zogby, CNN etc.).

Even polling from the 2008 election shows that immigration matters rank low on the list of Hispanic concerns. So the fact remains that only a very small % of the citizenry wants amnesty -- notwithstanding the loud and shrill voices of the well-funded cheap labor and ethnocentric lobbies.

The fact remains, like many elites, John McCain and his amnesty donors are out of touch with mainstream America, and the Repubican Party and moderate, sensible Democrats should know (and many do), that peddling amnesty even in good economic times is foolish -- but especially now with unemployment the highest in decades.
